Anderson, Scheepers climb world rankings

Kevin Anderson climbed two places to a career-best 28th in the latest men's world tennis rankings released on Monday.

Anderson, 25, coasted into the third round of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells last week without playing a match.

The South African, seeded 29th, received a bye in the first round.

He was given another pass in the second round when German Philipp Kohlschreiber withdrew after picking up a virus that affected a number of players in the tournament.

However, Anderson could not have asked for a tougher draw in the third round, going down 2-6, 3-6 against world No 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

Chanelle Scheepers, the South African women's No 1, also soared up the rankings, rising five positions to 42nd in the latest WTA list.

Scheepers reached the third round at Indian Wells, where she was eliminated in a 2-6, 0-6 defeat to world No 7 Marion Bartoli of France.
