Tennis expects delay on biological passport
Plans to introduce the biological pass in tennis to help the sport's fight against doping may be delayed by several months.
International Tennis Federation president Francesco Ricci Bitti told dpa in Rio de Janeiro that there were still some outstanding matters to deal with but that a decision should be taken in March.
It was originally hoped to have the pass in place for the March tournament in Key Biscayne, Miami.
"We still have to adjust a few things. I don't know if we will have it ready in Miami," Ricci Bitti said.
However a decision is expected next month on a start date. Ricci Bitti said that having a biological passport would first require an increase in the number of blood tests.
The pass collects information on various parametres over time so that an athlete can be suspended even without testing positive for a banned substance.
