Coach Breskvar dies
Boris Breskvar, the Slovenian tennis coach credited to have discovered Steffi Graf and Boris Becker, died on Monday in Ljubljana at the age of 70, it was reported Wednesday.
"It makes me very sad to hear of Boris Breskvar's death. He was my first coach, I came to him at the age of 5/6 at the training centre in Leimen," Becker told the Bild paper.
German tennis federation boss Karl Georg Altenburg said in a statement that Breskvar was instrumental in launching the careers of the multiple grand slam winners and world No 1 players Graf and Becker, and that of top-five player Anke Huber.
Breskvar died after a long illness on Monday. He had to undergo several operations on three brain tumors in 2007.
