Razzano, Parmentier put France on top
Virginie Razzano and Pauline Parmentier won in contrasting ways to give France a 2-0 lead over Slovenia in their Fed Cup World Group II playoff in Besancon, France, on Saturday.
Razzano rallied from a set down and overcame a late bout of cramp in her right thigh to beat Petra Rampre 2-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Parmentier followed up with a breezy 6-2, 6-3 win against 17-year-old Nastja Kolar.
Razzano was serving for the match at 5-3 when she fell to the ground clutching her thigh. But Razzano was able to close out a tight match lasting two hours, 40 minutes, and is still scheduled to play Kolar in Sunday's second reverse singles.
First up on Sunday is Parmentier, who can wrap up the tie if she beats Rampre on an indoor hard court.
