Bogomolov heads Russian team v Austria

Russian Davis Cup captain Shamil Tarpishchev on Tuesday announced his squad to play in the Davis Cup opening-round clash with hosts Austria at Wiener Neustadt on February 10-12.

The Russian squad is spearheaded by Moscow-born American Alex Bogomolov, who was given the green light to play for Russia in Davis Cup matches by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in December.

The 28-year-old, who has dual citizenship, moved to Florida in 1992 and has represented the USA at tournaments since turning pro nine years ago but has never played in the Davis Cup before.

Bogomolov is one of the most improved players on the ATP Tour, having risen from number 166 in the ATP ranking at the end of 2010 to number 33 in November 2011.

Bogomolov, who is currently ranked 35th, is joined in the team by Mikhail Youzhny (world number 39), Nikolay Davydenko (52) and Igor Kunitsyn (80).
