Chardy, Simon win Eastbourne openers
Frenchman Jeremy Chardy knocked out number five Croatian Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 6-4 in the first round of the Eastbourne International in England on Monday.
Slovak Martin Klizan defeated Argentine eighth seed Federico Delbonis 6-4, 6-4.
Sixth seed Gilles Simon of France, losing finalist a year ago to Feliciano Lopez, advanced over Australian qualifier Chris Guccione 7-6 (7/2), 6-4. There was better luck for Aussie Bernard Tomic, a winner over Andrey Golubev 6-4, 6-4.
German Tobias Kamke defeated Briton Dan Evans 6-2, 6-3. Argentine Carlos Berlocq advanced as Blaz Rola retired trailing 6-2, 3-1.
