Almagro, Hewitt reach Stockholm quarters

Third-seeded Nicolas Almagro of Spain advanced to the quarterfinals of the Stockholm Open on Wednesday to set up a meeting with former No 1 LIeyton Hewitt of Australia.

The 27-year old Almagro was given a wild-card entry into the indoor tournament and won 6-4, 7-6 (4) against Marius Copil of Romania after earning the only break of the match in the first set.

Hewitt ousted eighth-seeded Jarkko Nieminen of Finland 7-6 (2), 2-6, 6-4 in a match where both players struggled to hold serve. Nieminen finished with more breaks - six compared to five - but Hewitt had three in the decider to wrap up the match in 2 hours, 18 minutes.

Also Wednesday, Lithuania's Ricardas Berankis beat fourth-seeded Florian Mayer of Germany 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, and sixth-seeded Mikhail Youzhny of Russia ousted Swedish wild-card entry Patrik Rosenholm, 6-0, 6-2.
