Hungarian Melinda Czink claimed her first WTA Tour crown in Quebec City on Sunday with a come-from-behind victory over Czech Lucie Safarova at the $220 000 Bell Challenge.

Czink, the fifth seed, triumphed 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, improving on her previous best career showing of a runner-up finish to Ana Ivanovic in Canberra in 2005.

That was Czink's only previous appearance in a WTA Tour final, while fourth-seeded Safarova was going for her fifth career crown and her first since 2008 at Forest Hills.

The two left handers, Safarova ranked 50th in the world and Czink 52nd, had never played each other before.

Czink's run to the final included an abbreviated quarterfinal victory over top seed and defending champion Nadia Petrova of Russia, who retired after dropping the first set on Friday because of illness.

Czink then went on to beat third-seeded home hope Aleksandra Wozniak in the semis, while Safarova booked her spot in the final with a win over eighth-seeded German Julia Goerges.
