Scheepers slides down world rankings

Chanelle Scheepers slipped further down the women's world tennis rankings on Monday, dropping eight positions to 69th in the latest global list.

The SA women's No 1, who reached a career high 37th in October 2011, has struggled on the WTA tour this season, failing to get past the second round in any of the seven tournaments she has played.

Scheepers was eliminated by Japan's former world No 4, veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm, in the first round of the Sony Open in Miami, Florida, which ended at the weekend.

South Africa's top men's player, Kevin Anderson, remained in 29th place in the ATP rankings, one position behind his career best rating.

Anderson was in fine form in March, making a successful return to the court, after undergoing elbow surgery, by reaching the quarterfinals at Delray Beach and Indian Wells.

He progressed to the third round in Miami last week, where he was knocked out by Serbian world number 10 Janko Tipsarevic.
