Kohlschreiber in, Haas out for Germany

Philipp Kohlschreiber returns into the German Davis Cup team for the 2013 first-round tie in Argentina, while veteran Tommy Haas has declined to play, the German Tennis Federation (DTB) said on Thursday.

The DTB in a statement that new captain Carsten Arriens has also nominated Florian Mayer and Philipp Petzschner, and will decide on the fourth place on the team based on results in January.

Kohlschreiber did not play in the promotion/relegation playoff against Australia in September after falling out with then captain Patrik Kuehnen, who resigned in autumn.

Kohlschreiber is the highest-ranked German as 20th in the ATP list. Haas follows in 21st place but told Arriens that, given his age of almost 35, the trip to Buenos Aires would be to much for him in what could be his last season.

Arriens makes his debut as Germany captain at the Buenos Aires tie which is played on clay February 1-3. Germany have beaten Argentina only twice in eight Davis Cup meetings and lost all three ties in Buenos Aires.
