Venus downs Serena in Africa tour kick-off

Venus Williams beat Serena Williams 6-4 7-5 on Friday as the legendary American sisters began their "Break the Mould" exhibition tour of Africa in Lagos, Nigeria.

The sisters are due to meet again in a second exhibition match at the Ellis Park Indoor Arena in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Winner at Wimbledon, the Olympic Games and the US Open this year, Serena Williams now boasts 15 grand slam titles -- against the seven by Venus -- and is chasing the all-time record of 24.

Serena has a 13-10 advantage in official games against her older sister, having won both games when they last met at tournament level in 2009.

The Williams sisters are due in South Africa on Saturday morning and after their media conference at Montecasino they will visit the Arthur Ashe Tennis Centre in Soweto where development clinics will be in process.
