Scheepers into quarterfinals

Defending champion Chanelle Scheepers cruised into the quarterfinals of the Guangzhou International Women's Open tennis tournament in China on Wednesday.

Scheepers, who won her maiden WTA title at the tournament last year, defeated Serbian Bojana Jovanovski 6-4, 6-1 in the second round.

The South African women's No 1, seeded fifth, will face either Polish fourth seed Urszula Radwanska or Mandy Minella of Luxembourg in the quarterfinals.

Last season, Scheepers became the first South African woman in eight years to win a WTA title when she beat Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova in straight sets in the Guangzhou final.
