No hearing for Coetzee, Burger - Saru

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee and captain Schalk Burger will not face a hearing for their criticism of referee Craig Joubert in the wake of Saturday’s Super 14 final.

Both were upset about Joubert’s handling of the game after the Stormers’ 17-25 defeat to the Bulls in Soweto.

The Stormers felt that Joubert had treated the teams differently at the breakdowns and complained that the referee had “coached” the Bulls.

Coetzee and Burger’s criticism was a talking point at a regional Sanzar meeting in Johannesburg on Tuesday and it was decided not to refer the matter to tournament director Simon Jelowitz.

“The matter will not be referred to Sanzar,” a South African Rugby Union (Saru) spokesperson said on Tuesday evening.

It was the first time the Stormers complained about a referee this year.

Saru also acted quickly to refute Burger and Coetzee’s statements with an analysis of the game.

It showed that Joubert had not favoured either side with his handling of the match.
