Eleven new players in Cheetahs squad



Cheetahs Super Rugby coach Naka Drotske on Tuesday named 11 new players in the 50-man preliminary squad for next season's Super Rugby competition.

The squad consisted of 32 players from the Free State Cheetahs, 17 from Griquas and one from the Griffons.

The new squad members were props Caylib Ooshuizen (Lions) and Rossouw de Klerk (Bulls), hooker Torsten van Jaarsveld (Pumas), lock Lodewyk de Jager (Leopards), loose forward Tertius Daniller (Western Province), flyhalf Elgar Watts (Boland), centres Joubert Engelbrecht (Leopards) and Johann Sadie (Bulls) as well as SA sevens player Cornal Hendricks (Boland).

Six of the squad were currently injured, with lock Andries Ferreira, Springboks Coenie Oosthuizen, Johan Goosen and Heinrich Brussow, and eighthman Lappies Labuschagne out of action.

The Cheetahs play the Lions in Johannesburg on January 26 and the Bulls in Polokwane on February 9.

Centres Robert Ebersohn and Philip Snyman would not be available for the warm-up games due to SA Sevens commitments, while Andries Strauss has signed for the Southern Kings for 2013.
