Vodacom Blue Bulls lock Wilhelm Steenkamp will undergo a knee operation that will take four to six weeks to heal.
Steenkamp, one of the Bulls' three locks for next year’s Vodacom Super Rugby series, decided to have the knee op at the end of the season and will miss the first part of the Bulls pre-season for next year’s tournament.
He is joined on the sidelines by Bok Jacques Potgieter, who went for a groin operation on Wednesday and will be out for up to eight weeks.
Captain Pierre Spies and flanker Deon Stegmann, both long term injuries, are expected to return to training when the Bulls begin their pre-season on November 19.
