Hernandez to miss test
Puma flyhalf Juan Martín Hernández will miss the game against South Africa next Saturday in Mendoza. He suffered a five-millimetre groin tear during today’s training session, the Argentine Rugby Union announced. This is a big blow for Los Pumas going into the second round of the Castle Rugby Championship.
His replacement, and the composition of the reserves bench, will only be confirmed on Thursday after the team flies in to Mendoza.
The new absence of the former Sharks’ player comes after his return to test rugby following three seasons in which he played no tests because of two mayor injuries that require a knee reconstruction and a back operation.
The likely replacement for Hernández should be Santiago Fernández moving in from 12, to a position he occupied in three Rugby World Cup 2011 games. This might also mean a rejigging of the back line, with Martín Rodríguez, who was to start at 15, moved to inside centre and Lucas González Amorosino, who had been dropped, return to the starting XV.
