PE Sevens: All-day special

The SuperSport.com team was in Port Elizabeth onFridat to bring you all the action as the Blitzbokke took on the world in the third leg of the HSBC Sevens Series this weekend.

Our senior rugby correspondent, Brenden Nel, will bring us a good-as-there experience from the venue. Coverage will include text updates, photos, videos and live streaming.

11:15 - Good morning and welcome to our coverage of day one of the Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens. The Blitzbokke will be disappointed with their under-par performances in the first two legs of this year's HSBC Sevens Series, and will do everything in their power to turn things around on home soil.

11:35 - The first game is about to kick off. Fiji will take on Portugal, and you won't expect them to sweat too much on this one. In the mean time, check this out. We cornered young William Small-Smith to answer a couple of your questions earlier this week. Here is what he had to say.

12:00 - The first result of the day is in. Fiji comfortably beat Portugal 31-7. Now on the field are Wales and Zimbabwe, followed by a potential cracker between the USA and England. We'll keep you updated with the scores.

12:40 - Two more results in. The USA held England to 7-7 at halftime, but gave away a few soft ones in the second half. England win 26-7. Earlier Wales beat Zimbabwe 42-7. Just a quick reminder: the Blitzbokke kick off at 1:49pm

13:40 - Couple of results in: Samoa beat Argentina 17-5 and the in-form France beat Scotland 31-7. Looking forward to the France/New Zealand clash later on.

13:45 - Here is a look at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium today:

SA v Canada live:

13:49 - The Boks kick off and Canada is safe under the ball and will have the chance to attack first.

13:50 - Hunt cuts through a drifting defence and gets Du Preez over for the opening try.The conversion is good. 7-0 for the Boks.

13:53 - Afrika puts in a cross-kick. Dry gathers the ball and runs over untouched. 12-0 Boks.

14:00 - Yellow card for Hunt as he goes offside in a tackle. The Boks win a turnover, however, and hold on to their lead until the halftime whistle goes.

14:02 - The Canadians come within five metres of the Bok line, but the ball is lost. SA is back to seven now.

14:03 - Delport gathers a wayward kick and puts Hunt away to score under the sticks. 19-0 Boks, and a bit of breathing space for the home team.

14:05 - Hendricks gets the ball from kickoff, breaks the line and sprints the 40 metres to score on debut. 26-0.

14:07 - Richard scores after the hooter and the try is converted. 33-0 final score.

14:47 - Australia beat Kenya 31-14 to end the first round of matches. Now on the field is Fiji and Zimbabwe. The Boks' next match is at 4:55pm.

14.52 - We caught up with South African born American player Matt Hawkins at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium after their game a bit earlier.

14.55 - And we also had a chat with England's hero in Dubai - another South African born player in Matt Turner, who is a key man in Ben Ryan's team these days.

15.30 - We spoke to Cornal Hendricks, who made his debut for the Blitzbokke today and scored a wonderful try with almost the first touch of the ball.

15.40 - Did you know that Blitzbokke hardman Frankie Horne has just become the third highest capped South African player on the IRB Sevens circuit, with 35 tournaments under his belt? We spoke to him about the achievement.

15.48 - Samoa have continued their return by shocking England 24-12 in their Pool game. Wales beat Portugal 34-7 while Fiji beat Zimbabwe 42-17.

SA v Kenya live

16:55 - Afrika starts for the Boks. The Boks knock and Kenya has the first scrum.

16:58 - Two minutes into the game and already Hunt and Afrika have crossed for tries. 12-0 for the Boks.

17:00 - Hunt is over for his second, this time under the sticks. Afrika comes within inches of scoring his second as well, but he loses it over the line.

17:02 - One more from Hunt as the hooter goes, and the Boks lead 26-0 at halftime.

17:08 - It's taken a while for the Boks in this half, but eventually the ball comes out to Hunt again, and again he has no trouble running in. Try number four for the man.

17:10 - Richards goes over in the right-hand corner, and it's all too easy for the home side now.

17:14 - Du Preez picks up behind a Kenyan scrum and puts Prinsloo away for the match's last try. The Boks win 45-0.

19:49 - Fiji have just come back from 14-0 down to beat Wales 29-14 to top the pool. Next up is England against Argentina, followed by the highly-anticipated clash between New Zealand and France. The Blitzbokke take on Australia straight after that.

20:35 - Comfortable wins for England and New Zealand who go on to top their respective pools. Next up our last match of the day, SA v Australia.

SA v Australia live:

20:30 - The Boks kick off. Afrika's deep kick is fielded well, but the Aussies give away a penalty.

20:42 - Australia come within metres of the opening try, but Afrika's harrasment on defence is enough to cause a handlin error. The Blitzbokke escape their 22.

20:46 - Afrika spots a gap from behind a scrum and scores right on halftime. The conversion makes it 7-0 at the break.

20:54 - A rather tentative start by both teams in the second half. That is until Richards slips through a gap and has the pace to round off from 50 metres out. Hunt gets his name on the scoresheet soon after, and it looks to be all over bar the shouting.

20:55 - Richards crosses for old time's sake, and the conversion makes it 26-0 when the final whistle goes. The result means SA will face France in tomorrow's quarterfinals, while Australia has the pleasure of facing New Zealand.

21.00 - As the day comes to a close, we finish off our coverage with a few reaction videos from the coaches and players. Here we start with England coach Ben Ryan on his team's performance and facing Fiji in the quarters.

21.05 - Now onto the Blitzbokke and here we have Boom Prinsloo wrapping up the team's performance on day one.
