Dubai day two: all-day special



The SuperSport.com team is in Dubai today to bring you all the action as the Blitzbokke take on the world in the second HSBC sevens series of the season.

Our senior rugby correspondent, Brenden Nel, will bring us a good-as-there experience from the venue. Coverage will include text updates, videos and live streaming.


07:30 - Good morning and welcome to our coverage of day two of this year's HSBC Dubai sevens. Lots of anticipation for today's playoffs among Springbok fans after last night massive win over the All Blacks. Now they must bring home the bacon.

07:45 - For those of you who missed it, here is how the Blitzbokke reacted after last night's win: William Small-Smith about his match-winning try against New Zealand.

08:05 - Well, well, we start the day with a bit of an upset. The first result of day two is Canada beating Samoa 26-17. Always fun these things, if it doesn't happen to your team.

08:30 - Results number two is in and it saw the USA beating Zimbabwe 41-7.

09:30 - Three more results in with Scotland, Portugal and Fiji running out winners in their first matches of the day. Next up is England and New Zealand. The Boks play at 10:15.

10:05 - Another upset so early in the morning. This time England gets one over New Zealand, knocking them out of the Cup competition with a 10-7 victory. Not a good weekend for the All Blacks. Boks are up in ten minutes.

10:12 - Argentina beats Wales 7-5, after scoring in the dying seconds. They will face the winner of the next match between South Africa and France.

SA v France live:

10:16 - The Boks win back their own kickoff and immediately they are on attack.

10:19 - Three minutes into the game and it is still scoreless. France are doing a good job of disrupting the Boks' ball at rucktime.

10:21 - Dalligna opens the scoring for France. The French have the lion's share of possession and the Boks are slipping tackles. This was just a matter of time. The conversion is good.

10:24 - France are in possession and on attack when the halftime hooter goes. The immediately put the ball in touch. Can this come back to haunt them?

10:29 - Del Mas goes over for France's second and it looks to be all over for the Boks. They have been nowhere this morning.

10:32 - Brouqaha is over for the third and match-winning try. There was absolutely no urgence from the Boks this morning, and they deserved to lose this badly.

10:35 - Botha scores after the hooter for a bit of consolation. The Boks will now have to lift themselves for the Plate competition they find themselves in.

11.30 - We caught up with coach Paul Treu after the quarterfinal loss for his insight into the game.

12:00 - Ok, stay tuned for the Plate semifinals. Australia and New Zealand are up first.

12:20 - NZ's weekend went from very bad to terrible, losing their third match. This time it's Australia that downed them 26-12.

SA v Wales live:

12:30 - For the umpteenth time this weekend SA win back the kickoff. They must make a good start here.

12:33 - Ebersohn hives the Boks the early lead with a good try.

12:34 - Small-Smith now goes over for the Boks. Much better effort this by our boykies.

<12:41 - Good start to the second half for the Boks as Botha goes over in the right-hand corner.

12:45 - And Dazel puts the result beyond doubt when he crosses in the right-hand corner.

12:47 - Williams crosses for a consolation try for Wales. Good run from inside his own half.

12:48 - The final whistle goes. The Boks win 22-7 and will face Australia in the Plate final later this afternoon.

15:40 - The Cup semifinals have just concluded with England getting the better of Fiji and France beating Argentina. The two teams will fight it out for the title at 18:05. The Bowl final is up next, followed by the Shield final before the Boks take on Australia for the Plate.

16:15 - We have our first champions of the tournament. Samoa beat Kenya 31-17 to win the Bowl final.

16:45 - Scotland just beat the USA 26-0 to be crowned the Shield champions. Next up is the Boks.

SA v Aus live:

16:48 - And we're off. The Boks win back their kickoff and are away. Dry over for the opening try.

16:53 - Australia pull one back through Holland. boks are up 7-5.

16:54 - But the Boks strike back immediately. Du Preez is over to score under the sticks. The conversion makes it 14-5.

16:55 - Halftime now, and the Boks will feel relatively confident going into the second half.

16:59 - Angus scores in the right-hand corner for Australia. 14-10 now.

17:04 - Dreadful tackling by the Boks, and Holland runs the length of the field to score the winning try. The Bok defence had been woeful today, and they simply didn't deserve anything more than they got. Final score: Australia 17 South Africa 14.

17.30 - We caught up with South Africa's referee at the tournament, Rasta Rashivenge.

Cup Final Live:

18:20 - England start the final. The ball is tapped back but the French are all up in defence and catch England behind the advantage line.

18:22 - Damu steps in between two charging defenders and scores the opening try for England.

18:24 - Norton follows up a kick in behind the defence and the ball sits up for him perfectly. try number two for England. The conversion makes it 12-0.

18:26 - Delmas gets a run down the right-hand touchline and he has too much pace for the chasing defenders. 12-7 England.

18:30 - Turner picks up behind a scrum and breaks to the blindside. he shakes off his opposite number and has enough pace to make it to the corner.

18:31 - The ball is won back from the kickoff and Turner is straight through for his second. it looks like France's dream is slowly busy dying. Halftime.

18:35 - Del Mas goes over for his second in the right-hand corner. 24-12 now. Still hope for France?

18:41 - Still no additions to the scoreline despite the fact that France is dominating possession.

18:43 - Vickerman picks up a spilled ball and is over for the match-winner. England win 29-12.

18.55 - Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu wraps up his team's performance in Dubai for us.
