Dere appointed new Fiji sevens coach

Former captain Aliferete Dere has been appointed head coach of the Fiji sevens rugby team only weeks before the opening round of the International Rugby Board's world series.

Dere, who captained the Fiji sevens team during the 1990s, was named Monday to succeed Iliesa Tanivula. The first tournament of the 2011-2012 season will be staged on Australia's Gold Coast on November 25 and 26.

Fiji Rugby Union chairman Mosese Tikoitoga said "I ask the rugby public to be patient. We don't expect miracles this early, we are only three weeks away to the first game but the Fiji Rugby Union board has the complete confidence in the coaches we've identified to bring back seven-a-side glory."
