George Sevens - All-day special

The SuperSport team brought you all the action from the Emirates Airline George Sevens as it unfolded.

Our coverage included up-to-the-minute video updates, regular match updates, as well as snippets and what is going on at the ground at Outeniqua Park.

Day Two

20.10 - That wraps it up from George. Thanks for joining us for another great weekend of rugby. The series takes a break until February, when it'll be back-to-back weekends of Sevens action in Wellington and then Las Vegas.

20.05 - Cecil Afrika is out of action with a fractured cheekbone. Could be a few months.

20.00 - What a heart-stopping Cup Final! England flew into a 14-0 lead in the first half, but New Zealand dragged it back to 19-all, and when the clock had run out and with the All Blacks down to six men, England conceded a penalty deep in their own half. Tomasi Cama calmly slotted it to give New Zealand a dramatic victory.

19.25 - For the second week in a row, the Blitzbokke have won the Plate Final. Some consolation, but not the prize they wanted.

19.05 - Scotland take the bowl and Zimbabwe defeat Kenya in an all-African Shield Final.

18.00 - So it's New Zealand v England in the Cup Final. Another massive one and happily, the rain has now stopped.

17:10 - Some real last-minute heroics for the Boks as they make it into the Plate Final - but only just.

16.30 - Boks about to take the field against Wales in the Plate semifinal and the stands fill up again. Can the Boks salvage something from their home tournament?

16.20 - The beer tent is buzzing with fans who are singing to each other. Saw a few USA players mingling with the crowd. A carnival atmosphere all round.

15.45 - Just took a walk outside and the food courts are doing great business, but probably not as good as the beer tent. Lots to do in between the games!

15.00 - Fiji and New Zealand complete the semifinals, and we're set for a cracker last few games, even though the Boks aren't in the Cup competition anymore.

14.00 - What a disappointing run for the Boks after they dominated the first half and looked set for victory. England turned it around later on and scored two late tries to take the game. Heartbreaking for Paul Treu and his charges but they will now have to pick themselves up in the Plate when they face Wales, who lost to Samoa.

13.00 - Cup quarters are coming up, and the hope in a full stadium sits with the Boks. A lot of expectation after a great day one for the Boks.

11.00 - Its kick-off time for the Sevens quarterfinals here in an overcast and somewhat wet George. Lets hope the rain stays away for a while.

Day One

21.10 - South Africa finish strong with three wins from three and face England in the quarters. Its been a wonderful day of rugby. Join us again tomorrow for the quarterfinals.

20.38 - New Zealand exact revenge for their defeat in Dubai by giving England a rugby lesson. This means England are likely to face South Africa in the quarterfinals.

20.15 - Fiji come back at the death to claim a draw with arch rivals Samoa. The conversion was first ruled not over and then changed, giving the Fijians a lot to shout about after being down and out.

19.50 - Australia come back to claim a quarter final place in the place of Scotland. Aussies not looking sharp though.

18.00 - Wales make it three out of three as we head into the big games. England v New Zealand and Fiji v Samoa coming up.

17.10 - Boks have won their second game in great fashion, while England held off Kenya. New Zealand also looking very dangerous. Big few games coming up to finish day one.

16.00 - Break is over and we're underway again. Strong showing by Wales here with two out of two now.

15.00 -Rain has started and didn't last long. It will make it interesting for the rest of the afternoon. Basics will be massive with a wet ball.

14.00 - Blitzbokke look sensational. Focused calm and well rounded, they produce a polished performance to down Portugal 38-0. Nice start for the home crowd favourites.

12.55 - New Zealand whitewash Kenya and look very good. They've got a big game coming up later against England.

12.40 - Clouds moving into George means we may have some rain soon. Lets hope it stays away.

12.05 - Wales caused the first mini upset of the day by beating Australia 33-15 in a strangely one-sided game. The USA were 10-0 up against Samoa, but the South Sea Islanders were too strong and came back smoking to claim the win. Its all action here in George today.

11.37 - It's day one of the Emirates Airline George Sevens and it's hot and humid in George. Let's hope the rugby is the same scorching style. Follow us as we put up videos and updates through the day.
