Murray, Visagie out for Lions

The MTN Golden Lions will be hoping for a good medical assessment on midfielder Waylon Murray after the midfielder damaged his knee during the loss to the Sharks on the weekend.

Murray will see an orthopaedic surgeon today to assess the damage on his knee – the same one which kept him out of most of the Vodacom Super Rugby series earlier this year.

Coach Johan Ackermann confirmed that he was anxiously awaiting the outcome of the knee scope today, as well as news on hooker Callie Visagie, who was also injured against the Sharks.

“Waylon will see the doctor today. There is some damage, but it isn’t the same type of damage that kept him out. Hopefully the scope will determine that it’s not so bad and that he can play relatively soon again. It is the same knee but we hope it won’t be too serious,” Ackermann told supersport.com

Murray missed most of the Super Rugby series but has been in fine form since returning to the side and he will be missed should he have to sit out this week’s game against Western Province at Coca-Cola Park.

Visagie is also on the sidelines with a rib injury, prompting Ackermann to call in some expert medical help to try and get the hooker right again.

Both players will face fitness tests later in the week, but the Lions aren’t hopeful of them being fit for the Province game, and this at a time when Province have been bolstered by Boks Siya Kolisi and Juan de Jongh.

“I expect Province to use both Kolisi and De Jongh, they are quality players. We certainly would have considered them if they were in our side,” Ackermann added.
