Stegmann out for the season

The Vodacom Blue Bulls, still reeling from their heavy defeat at the hands of DHL Western Province, were dealt another heavy blow when they learned they will no longer have the services of Deon Stegmann for the remainder of the Absa Currie Cup season.
Stegmann broke his arm in the 42-6 defeat at Newlands on the weekend – the same arm that he broke in Vodacom Super Rugby action back in May and will now spend the next few months frustratingly on the sidelines.
The news came on top of confirmation that Arno Botha will be out for another week or two with a hamstring injury, meaning that coach Pine Pienaar will have to make some more changes to the loose trio ahead of Saturday’s game against the Lions at Loftus Versfeld.
This means that Warwick Tecklenburg is likely to start, although there may well be a call-up for former Free State loose forward Jean Cook or SA under-20 stars Wian Liebenberg and Shaun Adendorff into the senior squad.
Francois Venter, who was ill on Saturday and missed the game against Province, is likely to be fit and ready for selection this week, although it will be interesting to see what changes Pienaar makes to the side after the heavy loss.
Further news was that Bok Bjorn Basson will be fit and ready to train again this week, and could well be ready for selection next week if all goes well.
