Ashley Johnson back against Valke

The Emerging Bok Ashley Johnson will be back in the Griffons fold when they host the Valke in Welkom on Saturday afternoon. The Purple People Eaters will also have two new wingers in their side.

Former Shimlas winger Rudolf Steyn will make his first class debut on the right wing and Springbok Sevens star Fabian Juries will start on the left.

Cheetahs veteran Eddie Fredericks and stalwart Darryl Coeries paid the price for allowing Pumas winger Allister Ketteldas and fullback MJ Mentz running freely and scoring five tries between them last weekend.

Johnson replaces his younger brother Herschol in the middle of the scrum.

A fourth change is on the cards, with scrumhalf Gerrie Odendaal having to prove his fitness. He has been bracketed with another former Shimla Enrico Schultz.

The Griffons are in third spot on the First League log and have to win this game to keep in touch with the two top sides, the Pumas and the Eagles.

Th Griffons are the defending champions and the Valke are currently in last place on the log, with in-house problems and a brand new coach.

Griffons:

Cecil Afrika; Rudolf Steyn, Werner Griesel, Thabang Molefe, Fabian Juries; Kennedy Tsimba, Gerrie Odendaal/Enrico Scholtz; Nicky Steyn (capt), Marnus Briedenhann, Albert Parsons, Windpomp van Rooyen, Gys Briedenhann, Sewes Oosthuizen, Ashley Johnson, Sarel Louw.

Replacements: Herschol Johnson, Kevin Stevens, Sandile India, Shaun Botha, Enrico Schultz/Hugo Kleynhans, Eddie Fredericks, Darryl Coeries.
