Rugby | Absa Currie Cup First Division

Just one change for Eagles

SWD Eagles rugby coach Johann Lerm made just one change for their First Division rugby match against the bottom-of-the-log Valke at Outeniqua Park on Saturday.

Hard-working flanker Victor Joubert gets a well-deserved rest and is replaced by Shawn Raubenheimer.

"Victor has been playing all season so far. I feel for him. He is a player who gives a 100 per cent every time. Lets give him a break," Lerm said.

The absence of Joubert will, however, not weaken the home side. Raubenheimer is currently playing excellent rugby and deserves a change in the starting line-up.

On the bench Tiaan de Kock makes a return at the expence of Jaco Terblanche.

"This is mainly because Tiaan can scrum at loosehead and tighthead," Lerm explained.

Jacques Engelbrecht takes Raubenheimer's place on the bench, while Ricardo Croy comes in for Zinethemba Zweni.

Lerm admitted that scoring tries seems to be a negative factor so far.

In three matches the Eagles could only score four tries, but with such a five-star backline the George men are capable of doing much better.

The SWD team is: Bevin Fortuin (capt), Norman Nelson, Izak Saayman, Joe Breytenbach, Bobby Joubert, Gaffie du Toit, Jandré Blom, Jody Burch, Schalk van der Merwe, Shawn Raubenheimer, Henry Grimes (vice-capt), Wikus Liebenberg, Wikus Harmse, Wayne Bennett, Brood van der Westhuizen.

Replacements: Junior Leota, Tiaan de Kock, Hein Potgieter, Jacques Engelbrecht, Warren Malgas, Ricardo Croy, Baldwin McBean.
