Catch the mother of all sporting weekends



It’s going to be an all-out war for control of the remote this weekend as SuperSport jam-packs just about everyone’s favourite sport into two days of viewing.

Football fans will get to see 10 grueling months of the football season come to a spectacular climax in the Champions League, Nedbank Cup and Copa Italia finals while the tennis enthusiasts’ wait for the second major of the year comes to an end on Sunday with the start of the French Open.

For the ardent rugby fan there’s the rare opportunity of seeing the Baa-baas in action when they take on England while Super Rugby rumbles on with another massive South African derby, the Sharks against the Bulls.

With heavyweight boxing no longer a box office hit, middle weight classes continues to pull in the crowds and Saturday night’s super middleweight bout between Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler will surely have all boxing fans glued to their screens.

Track and field sensation, David Rudisha’s presence alone, at Saturday’s New York leg of the Diamond League, will have athletics fans staying up all night for the action.

Golf aficionados have a stellar cast to look forward to at the European Tour’s flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship and there’s also the chance of seeing the US PGA Tour converge at Hogan’s Alley for the Crowne Plaza Invitational.

For motorsport die-hards, the Monaco Grand Prix is always a highlight of the year, not for its glitz and glam but the pure racing. The Circuit de Monaco is a track that really showcases a driver’s abilities.

Other highlights of the weekend are the culmination of the Indian Premier League, where all South African cricket fans will be hoping that future Protea, Chris Morris shines and the Giro d’Italia.
