Triple world title bill live on the box
Fight fans couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the boxing year.
On Sunday morning (SA time), one of the world’s best emerging fighters, Gennady Golovkin, will defend his WBA middleweight championship against tough Gabriel Rosado in New York.
The action will be broadcast live on SuperSport 7 from 4am.
It promises to be a terrific tear-up with Rosado’s aggression matched against Golovkin’s raw power. He’s undefeated in 24 fights with 21 knockouts.
Golovkin announced his arrival with a brutal stoppage over Grzegorz Proksa last September and has since struggled to find opponents, who want no part of him.
Golovkin-Rosado is co-featured on a triple world title bill that also boasts Orlando Salido against Mikey Garcia for the WBO featherweight championship and Rocky Martinez versus Juan Carlos Burgos for the WBO super-featherweight crown.
With wins over Rafael Guzman and Mauricio Pastrana, top contender Garcia must be favourite to dethrone Salido, while Martinez’s bout against Burgos threatens to be a war between two big hitters.
