All your last-day European football drama

Fasten your seatbelt as it’s going to be a nerve-jangling race to the finish line in the English Premier League, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga and chase for Champions League qualification.

The 2011/12 English Premier League, Italian Serie A and Spanish La Liga are broadcast exclusively live on SuperSport and in High Definition.

In England it would seem Manchester City have one hand on the title heading into the final day of the season. City need only match the result of their bitter rivals Manchester United on the day to end a 44-year wait to be league champions.

Just below the Manchester dogfight is a three-way battle for the last two Champions League places. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United will fight it out for qualification into Europe’s premier club competition. At the wrong end of the table, Bolton Wanderers’ 11-year stay in the Premier League is in serious jeopardy. The Trotters need a win against Stoke City, coupled with a negative Queens Park Rangers result, if they are to extend their stay for another year.

Real Madrid may have crossed the finish line first in Spain, but the drama for the final Champions League spot and the third team to be relegated is yet to unfold. Malaga, Athletico Madrid, Levante and Mallorca will fight it out for the chance to play Champions League football next season while Granada, Villareal, Rayo Vallecano and Real Zaragoza will be doing whatever it takes to avoid disappearing from the top flight along with the already relegated duo of Racing Santander and Sporting Gijon.

While the “Old Lady” of Italian football, Juventus, toasts her return to the top after years in the wilderness, Inter Milan, the occupiers of the throne when the “Old Lady” toiled in the wilderness, will have to scrap it out with Udinese, Lazio and Napoli for a place among Europe’s elite clubs in the Champions League, having missed qualification in 2001/02.
