Two-time gold medallist at the Paralympic Games in 2008 and World Record holder in 100m and 200m, Fanie van der Merwe will be out to defend his titles in London. Van der Merwe suffers from cerebral palsy and competes in the T37 sprint categories.

Van der Merwe grew up in Virginia in the Free State, and has a BA Sport Science degree from the University of Stellenbosch. His brother, Chris, has been a professional rollerblader since 2008 and placed sixth at the 2012 Asian X-Games.
