Guintoli brimming with confidence
Sylvain Guintoli heads to Assen brimming with confidence as the Aprilia rider is leading the Championship on 83 points.
After two rounds of the 2013 season, Guintoli has recorded four podium finishes in four races including a double P2 at the last event in Aragon.
As such he's sitting on 83 points, 22 ahead of BMW's Chaz Davies while his own Aprilia teammate Eugene Laverty is third, 38 points off the pace.
"We come to Assen leading the Championship and with growing confidence," he said.
"In Aragon, I had to face my demons! Together with my team, we worked hard and manage to get two great results."
As for this weekend's race, it takes place at the Assen's TT Circuit with the permanent track having hosted a World Superbike event since 1992.
And although it fits into the history books as the track to hold the second highest number of WSBK races, for Guintoli it will also be remembered as the venue of his first World Superbike victory.
"Assen is a place with many great memories," said the Frenchman.
"I had my first world stage podium (with Aprilia) in 250 back in 2003 and also my first WSBK victory last year.
"I am excited to race again on this fantastic track and to enjoy once again the RSV4."
