Checa ready for the challenge

Although Carlos Checa could bid farewell to his Championship title this weekend, the Spaniard insists he's up for the challenge.

With three rounds remaining - starting with this weekend's Nurburgring outing - Checa has just 233.5 points towards his title campaign. That puts him 75 points behind Championship leader Marco Melandri.

But, with a total of 150 points still to play for, Checa could yet sneak in there.

However, in order for that to happen, the Ducati rider needs to avoid a repeat of the last outing in Moscow where he scored just 13 points.

"Unfortunately Moscow didn't exactly go to plan and now we need to make up for that at the Nürburgring," Checa admitted.

"I feel prepared and ready for the challenge and hope that data from last year's race will be able to he help us do equally well this year."

The Spaniard, though, concedes that the field could be shaken up by the weather with rain forecast for the Nurburgring weekend.

"We've seen a lot of wet weather this season and will probably have rain in Germany too," he said.

"The important thing is to adapt to the weather and track conditions, and do our job at the highest possible level."
