Melandri 'excited' ahead of Brno

Marco Melandri is eager to follow up last year's Brno victory with another one - or even two - as he seeks to close the gap on Max Biaggi.

With just six rounds of the World Superbike Championship remaining time is fast running out for Melandri to stamp his authority on the title race.

The BMW rider, who has already won three races this season, is 48 points behind his compatriot heading to Brno.

The circuit, though, has often favoured Biaggi with the Aprilia rider claiming 11 victories.

However, last season, in his first season in WSBK with Yamaha, Melandri managed to pull one back on Biaggi.

This year he's hoping to put in a repeat and maybe even go on to take the double.

"I really like Brno because it is a very fast and smooth circuit," said the Italian.

"The turns are not too fast, most of them are second gear corners and just a few times you turn in third gear. However, you can use all the power of the engine between the corners.

"The layout is really good fun because it is up and down and the track is very wide.

"Last year I was successful there and I am confident for this race weekend. I think that our RR will work quite well on this track.

"I am excited about going there. The weather could be a little bit unstable, so we will see."
