Sykes working hard on fitness

Kawasaki rider Tom Sykes has been working hard in the off-season ahead of 2012's opening race at Phillip Island in Australia on February 26.

Aside from working on his fitness through cycling, Sykes has also been in Spain where he has been training with sports medical professional Dr Ricard Pruna, the man responsible for the fitness and conditioning of the players at Barcelona football club.

For many motorcyclists, bicycles form an important cornerstone of the off-season regimen, and Sykes told Crash.net, "Cycling is an important part of my training and having the right bike for the job certainly makes things better."

He said he had recently been sponsored a top-of-the-range bicycle and that he was hopeful his time on the bike, coupled with his work with Pruna, would benefit him over the course of the season as he sought to improve on his 2011 finish of 13th place.
