Solberg wins opening stage in Finland

Citroen's Norwegian driver Petter Solberg won the opening special stage of the Rally of Finland staged on Thursday.

Last year's winner and local favourite Mikko Hirvonen came in second after the 4.19km run with his Ford teammate and countryman Jari-Mari Latvala in third.

Multiple champion Sebastien Loeb of France was placed fourth on a day where a record temperature of 37 degrees centigrade was recorded.

Two well known individuals came further back, with 51-year-old Juha Kankkunen, a four-time former champion, finishing 13th in a Ford, two places behind former Formula One world champion Kimi Raikkonen.

Friday's menu features ten special stages.

Loeb leads the 2010 drivers' standings on 151 points, from fellow Frenchman Sebastien Ogier on 100 and Hirvonen (80).
