Marquez has a great attitude - Rossi
Valentino Rossi is expecting a strong performance from Marc Marquez this season after the Moto2 champ claimed third place on Day One of the Sepang test.
As pre-season testing got underway at the Sepang circuit on Tuesday, Marquez impressed many with his pace as the Honda rookie brought his bike home in third place, just 0.044s off the pace.
"I expect - and said three or four months ago - that Marquez can fight for victory from the start of the season," said Rossi. "But I like his attitude a lot because in his mind, looking at him, it looks like he wants to win the Championship at the first try. This is good."
Rossi added with a laugh: "We hope he will make some mistakes or problems due to lack of experience! But if not he will be very strong for everybody."
As for his own performance in testing, the Yamaha returnee was relieved to have brought his bike home in fourth place, less than half a second short of Dani Pedrosa's P1 time.
"It was a big relief, because after two seasons like this you have a lot of question marks, a lot of doubt. Am I still a top rider? Am I still able to arrive at the limit with the bike?" said the Italian.
"In the last two seasons the results were quite bad, but especially the difference to the top guys was huge. It was not half a second, it was 1.5-2 seconds. So for me it is a great relief today.
"What I understand in my career is that the feeling after ten laps is very important... and I was straight in the top three this morning.
"When I tried the Ducati at Valencia after three laps I understood it would be very hard. You never give up, but the first impression is very important."
