Motorsport 2012: the Year in Pictures

Just like days of not so long ago, there is a German dominating F1 again; there were marvellous scraps in both the MotoGP and Superbike spheres, while a certain Frenchman continued his incredible, unrelenting domination of rallying.

It was a thrill-a-minute season in F1 this year, with seven drivers winning the first seven races before Ferrari's Fernando Alonso eventually managed to pull away from the pack.

He didn't get far enough away though and, thanks to four consecutive wins late in the season, two-time defending champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull hauled him in to become the youngest three-time supremo in the sports' history.

Jorge Lorenzo eventually edged out Dani Pedrosa on the MotoGP scene, but both will have to look out for seven-time champion Valentino Rossi who has walked away from his disastrous two years at Ducati and returned to Yamaha.

Max Biaggi edged out Tom Sykes by a mere half a point in SBK, and then promptly called it a day, and France's Sebastien Loeb won nine of the 13 rallies in 2012 to earn his ninth consecutive World Rally title.

It's all here in our 2012 gallery, so click on the link below and re-live the adrenalin on wheels:
