Track officials want 2013 race date changed

Circuit of the Americas officials say they hope Formula One will change the date of the 2013 US Grand Prix to avoid a conflict with a University of Texas home football game the same weekend.

The track near Austin opened last month to rave reviews with more than 260 000 attending the three-day race weekend. The 2013 race has been scheduled for November 17 with practice and qualifying on Friday and Saturday.

Texas hosts a home football game that same weekend. Track and university officials worry both events will bring a crush of people to Austin and strain access to hotel rooms and disrupt transportation.

Track chairman Bobby Epstein says he's confident F1 officials are working to find a solution, but acknowledged the race date may not be changed.
