Ferrari raise 1.8m Euros for quake victims
A Ferrari auction has raised over 1.8 million euros for families of the victims of the earthquakes that struck the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna in May, the company said on Wednesday.
The online auction saw a luxury 599XX car, the only one made, sold to an American client for over 1.4 million euros.
It will be personally delivered to its new owner by the Ferrari team's Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa at the next Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
The nose-cone on the F60 was purchased by a Malaysian client for 23 000 euros while the engine from the F2008, which won the F1 constructors' world title in 2008, went to a British bidder for 80 000 euros.
"I knew I could count on the big-heartedness of the Ferraristi but they've still managed to surprise me once again," said Ferrari chairman, Luca di Montezemolo.
