Commemoration events to mark Senna's death

A series of events have been planned this week to commemorate the death of Formula One legend Ayrton Senna who died on the Imola track 20 years ago.

The Italian circuit, where the Brazilian lost control of his Williams on May 1, 1994 when leading the San Marino Grand Prix, will open its doors to the public from May 1 to 4.

On April 30, there will be a memorial service to pay tribute to Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger who was also killed while taking part in qualifying at the same race, an accident that badly affected Senna at the time.

Visitors can take part in various kinds of races including karts, cars and bicyles while there will also be a presentation on current security in racing and Formula One.

There will be a series of tributes and a memorial for Senna, a three-time world champion, as well as a parade for the late Sao Paulo native who was 34 at the time of the accident.
