Changkija maintains LPGA Classic lead

US rookie Sandra Changkija remained atop the leaderboard on Friday as the weather-disrupted first round of the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in Ontario, Canada, concluded.

Changkija fired an eight-under par 63 on Thursday and had a three-stroke clubhouse lead over China's Feng Shanshan when play was halted by thunderstorms.

On Friday, Sweden's Anna Nordqvist surged up the leaderboard with a seven-under 64, slicing Changkija's lead to one stroke.

Feng, who became the first golfer from China to win a major tournament with her victory in the LPGA Championship a fortnight ago, was joined on 66 by South Korea's Hee Kyung Seo and Americans Karlin Beck and Lexi Thompson.

The steamy weather that preceded Thursday's storms was replaced on Friday with pleasant, sunny weather as the first round wrapped up and the second round got under way.
