Tshwane Open to cap a glorious golf summer

The Tshwane Open at The Els Club Copperleaf in Centurion from 28 February to 3 March will draw the curtain on what has undoubtedly been one of the most exciting summer seasons in South African golf history.

Beginning with the inaugural Cape Town Open in November, local golf fans have been basking in the most exhilarating display of world class golf for the last four months with five European and Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned events, the European Tour’s Volvo Golf Champions and the 32nd edition of Africa’s Major, the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

The City of Tshwane is ready to cap this glorious festival of international world-class golf action when it hosts the record-breaking sixth Sunshine and European Tour event where a field of 156 top professionals golfers will challenge for the honour of the inaugural title, precious world golf ranking points, a two-year European Tour exemption and a solid boost in their Race to Dubai rankings.

City of Tshwane Strategic Executive Director for Communication, Marketing and Events, Nomasonto Ndlovu, said the €1.5-million Tshwane Open is more than just golf.

“The Tshwane Open intends to raise the profile of the Tshwane brand internationally, build competence and empower Tshwane people in a sustainable manner,” Ndlovu said.

“The tourism industry is set to be a major benefactor of the event. Not only will this premier sporting event attract golfing fans, but it will also expose the world to the many facilities, attractions and cultural riches that the City has to offer our visitors.”
