Redman ready to rumble in Benoni
The Sunshine Big Easy Tour presented by Stonehage returns to Benoni Country Club this week, where Jake Redman will look to cap off the first half of the season with success before attempting to qualify for The Open.
“This tournament is really beneficial to me, because you stay up to date with tournament experience. I’m headed to the United Kingdom straight after Benoni for The Open Local Final Qualifying, and it’s really nice to be able to play just before I head over there,” he said.
And the Fancourt representative is on track – he has top-20 finishes to show for all four of the cuts he has made on the Sunshine Tour this year.
“My game feels like it’s all coming together. I’ve been working on a few things and the last few tournaments have gone well. I’m just going to go out there and try to enjoy myself and not expect too much,” he added.
The 25-year-old enjoys playing the 6 659-metre parklands course, and it showed when he shot 69, 71 to finish tied third in the Big Easy Benoni tournament last year.
“I always enjoy playing at Benoni,” said Redman. “I played in the SA Amateur there in 2009 and have had fond memories ever since. I like it because it has a challenging layout, it’s in good condition and it has good greens.”
Redman was keen to conclude the first half of his 2012 campaign with a bang. He gave credit to the Big Easy Tour for paving his way to qualifying for The Open Championship.
“The Big Easy Tour allows you to learn to deal with tournament pressure, and that’s something money can’t buy. The Tour has been really beneficial for my progression and now things are going well,” he said.
