Singapore's Mardan Mamat was disqualified from the Open Championship after missing the cut on Friday after it was discoverd he had signed an incorrect scorecard.
The 44-year-old Asian, a three-time winner on the Asian Tour, followed a first-round 77 with a two-over par 72 on Friday at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, missing the 36-hole cut at the year's third major championship.
But Mardan was disqualified for signing for a lower score at the sixth hole, which he penciled down as a birdie three instead of a four.
He also signed for a five on the eighth hole when, in fact, he had shot a par four, likely the reason for the confusion as his card totaled to 72.
Mardan's disqualification means he will not be eligible for the 2 600 pound sterling prize money for those who missed the cut.
Mardan missed the cut in his two prior Open starts, in 1997 at Royal Troon and 2005 at St. Andrews.
