St Andrews to host 2015 Open

The 2015 Open Championship will be staged at St Andrews, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Royal and Ancient chief executive Peter Dawson confirmed the 144th championship would return to the spiritual home of golf from July 16-19.

"We are delighted to announce that The Open will be returning to St Andrews and the historic Old Course in 2015," Dawson said.

"St Andrews has proved time and again that it is perfectly equipped to host The Open and I am certain we will yet again see a worthy winner lift the Claret Jug.

"Players, spectators and officials alike will welcome a return to the game's spiritual home and I fully expect that we will witness another thrilling Championship."

The Open has been staged at St Andrews every five years since 1990, with South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen winning the 2010 tournament.

Royal Lytham in northwest England will host the championship in 2012 before it heads to Muirfield in Scotland in 2013 and then onto Hoylake's Royal Liverpool in 2014.
