Tom Watson back at Australian Open

Eight-time major winner and Champions Tour regular Tom Watson will play in the Australian Open in December for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Tournament officials said on Friday that Watson, who won the Australian Open in 1984, will join Australians Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy and Greg Chalmers at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney from December 6-9. Scott won the Australian Open in 2009 while Chalmers is the defending champion.

Watson's win at Royal Melbourne in 1984 came a year after he won the last of his eight majors, the 1983 British Open at Royal Birkdale, his fifth Open championship. He joined the Champions Tour in 1999 and has 14 wins on the senior tour.
