Couples to play in Australian Open

Former world number one Fred Couples will join Adam Scott and Greg Norman at this year's Australian Open, organisers said on Thursday.

Couples, 50, was forced to pull out of last year's Open with a back complaint but officials said he would be coming to The Lakes course in Sydney from December 2 to 5.

The former US Masters winner is the latest addition to the tournament, which will also feature defending champion Scott and his Australian compatriots Norman, a five-time winner of the event, and Geoff Ogilvy.

Two-time major champion American John Daly is also in the field.

Prize money for the Australian Open will be $1.3 million and for the second successive season it will be the penultimate leg on the OneAsia Tour.
