Bernd Wiesberger wins Austrian Open

Bernd Wiesberger hit a 7-under 65 to win the Austrian Open by three strokes on Saturday for his second European Tour title.

The Austrian, who was four strokes off the lead going into the final round, finished with an overall 19-under 269. He is the second Austrian winner of the event after Markus Brier in 2006.

"It's fantastic," Wiesberger said. "My first win (Ballantine's Championship in April) in Korea was great. But this victory in front of my home crowd can only be topped by winning a major."

Shane Lowry of Ireland and Thomas Levet of France shared second.

Overnight leader Thorbjorn Olesen dropped to fifth place after the Dane shot 74 with three bogeys on the back nine.

Wiesberger carded four birdies in five holes around the turn. The Austrian was fortunate when a poor tee shot at the 17th hit a tree and bounced to leave him in a good position to get onto the green. He then rounded off his victory with a 15-metre (50-foot) putt on the final green.

Wiesberger became the third player to win more than one European Tour event this season after South-Africans Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen.
