Mo aims for third Asian Tour title
South Korea's Mo Joong-Kyung took the lead on the second day of the inaugural Volvik Hildesheim Open J Golf Series on Friday following another flawless round of four-under-par 68.
The 40-year-old, whose day two total stands at 136, is hopeful he can win his first Asian Tour title on home soil at the $300 000 event, which is jointly sanctioned with the Korean Golf Tour.
Fellow countryman Kim Dae-Hyun, meanwhile, added a 70 to his opening 67 to take second place while Thailand's Pariya Juhnasavadik and Korean Park Boo-Won shared third place on 138.
Javi Colomo of Spain, making his Asian Tour debut, returned with a 70 to share fifth place with Koreans Lee In-Woo and Lee Sang-Hee on 139.
Mo, who won the last of his two Asian Tours in 2008 in Thailand, started on the back-nine par four 10th and got his first birdie on the 16th before reaching the turn in 35.
He marked his card with two more birdies on the first and second holes before another birdie on the seventh hole ensured he stayed ahead of the pack.
"I try not to think too far ahead but it would be great if I do win an Asian Tour event in my home country," he said, according to a press release from organisers of the Tour.
Second-place Kim, who is regarded as one of the longest hitters on the Korean Golf Tour where he averages 290 yards, mixed four birdies against two bogeys.
"I'll try to play aggressively like what (I have) been doing and hopefully it'll continue to put me in a strong position Sunday," he said.
The cut was set at even-par with a total of 65 players making it into the weekend rounds.
