Adam Scott enjoyed a welcome return to form with a third place finish at the rain-hit Singapore Open on Sunday, the Australian finishing a couple of shots behind champion Ian Poulter after two solid final rounds.

The 29-year-old has struggled since reaching a career high world number three after his last victory on the PGA Tour in April 2008 but after sneaking into the weekend on the cutline at one-over par, he came close to pulling off an unlikely win.

"I've had a few good showings here in Singapore," the twice champion told reporters after closing with a three-under 68 around the demanding Serapong Course. "I enjoy Singapore as a whole so its been an enjoyable week."

Scott has slipped to number 76 in the world rankings but his form over the last 36 holes at the $5 million co-sanctioned event will give him plenty of cause for optimism.

"It's good to be near the top of the leaderboard as I've been working hard," Scott added.

"I keep saying it and it's hard to prove until you have a good result. It's great to see something come out of all the hard work as I have been grinding pretty hard and hung in there all weekend."

The event was dogged by weather delays and forced the players to abandon the course three times in as many days due to the threat of lightning.

Facing a race against time to complete the event by Sunday, organisers opted to have the final two rounds played from two-tee starts, meaning Scott played the back nine first and would have putted for victory on the ninth hole had he overhauled Poulter.

"I thought I could do something special and win on the wrong side of the course," Scott said. "But it wasn't to be and that will probably never happen.

"It has been a very long week with all the delays coming on and off and I played 27 holes for a couple of days, which is very hard around here."
