Schwartzel bemoans cold putter

Despite shooting a third round three-under-par 69, South African golfer Charl Schwartzel was left frustrated with his putting at the World Golf Championship at TPC Blue Monster at Doral, in Miami, on Saturday.

Schwartzel's round included six birdies and three bogies and moved the 2011 Masters Champion up to fifth place on 11 under.

The 28-year-old from Maccauvlei Golf Club would need something special in the final round to get close to American Tiger Woods on 18 under.

"I mean, overall my score is a good score, but the way I did it was disappointing," said Schwartzel after his round.

"I had a chance to really get myself up there. My putter dropped me on the back nine, and I left myself quite a long way back and making life very difficult on myself."

Schwartzel would not reveal if he thought he could catch Woods in the final round. Instead, he said he would simply like to make more putts to make a good run up the leaderboard.

"I need to, but I need to play more solid. There's no point in making a bunch of birdies followed with bogeys. I'm missing a lot of short putts and I need to sharpen up on that and hopefully make a bunch of birdies with no bogeys, that will be the idea."

The event which is co-sanctioned between the European and US PGA tour presents the chance for Schwartzel to continue his good form. Schwartzel has not finished outside fifth position in strokeplay competition since October last year, and included a win at the Alfred Dunhill at Leopard Creek in December.
