Mpumalanga’s top juniors ready for Glacier Series
Mpumalanga hosts its first tournament on this year’s Glacier by Sanlam Junior Series when the Jannie Ackerman Tournament tees off at Witbank Golf Club this Sunday.
The tournament is the fifth on this year’s series, and will be an opportunity for the province’s top junior golfers to see whether they can set a new benchmark on the series. To date, the best score in the A Division (handicaps 1-6) has been 69.
Jaco Kruger will tee it up as one of the favourites following his recent victory in the Witbank Junior Open.
It’s also an opportunity to gain a victory on a course that has seen the likes of Retief Goosen win early in his career.
The Glacier Junior Series is South Africa’s largest junior golf series, and features 25 tournaments played nationwide. The winners in each of the A, B and C Divisions qualify for the National Final later this year. The winner here qualifies for an all-expenses paid trip to compete against some of the world’s top juniors in the Orange Bowl Junior Invitational in America.
Each tournament is sponsored by either a leading South African professional golfer or golf official, institution or benefactor.
Former professional golfer Ackerman was one of the founding members of the Sunshine Tour and played on the circuit before retiring from the fairways to focus on coaching and junior golf development.
